The picture shows how we are lured by the glow of our phones –
and poses the question:
"Are we hanging on our phones – or are our phones hanging on us?"
Have they become part of us? Something we can no longer put down?

The drawing criticizes our dependency on smartphones,
social media, and the endless flicker of screens. And hints at what’s missing:
the light that comes from within us, increasingly replaced and outshone by the glow of our phones.

Oberkunst wants to create art that matters – and bring it where it can matter.
To the streets, where people pass by, heads down, staring into their phones.

​I give it to the others – the ones who still look up.

The street becomes the gallery, transforming those once seen as mere beggars into gallerists.

Harry is deaf – and for me, not speaking perfect English and being half-deaf myself, he was hard to understand.
He said he hadn’t drunk any water in ages.
The few coins that now and then fall into his cup are worth nothing in expensive London –
especially since hardly anyone uses cash anymore.

But the worst part is this:
People simply look past him, as if he had long since vanished into thin air.
They’ve become unreachable.
The world moves on in silence – past someone who’s become invisible.

I have no idea if this picture remained invisible too –
or if it made something visible.
Next time I go to London with my briefcase,
I hope I see him again.
